AFL School Carnivals

During Terms 2 and 3 the ACC conduct two AFL competitions.

The first is the Yr 10 School Boys Cup played in Term 2. This is a competition involving a series of one day regional lightning carnivals coordinated by School Sport WA and the Associated and Catholic Colleges of WA.  Teams are made up of Year 10 male students.

In 2012 three ACC zones and four carnivals took place for the Year 10 Carnivals:

  • South Carnival (Ferndale Reserve & Sutherlands Park) – Wednesday 20th June
  • North Carnival (Lightning Park, Noranda) – Wednesday 13th June
  • NAS Sub-Association - Term 2

The winners of each carnival for 2012 played in the regional finalists' Carnival against the government school winners on Tuesday 7th August at UWA Sports Park.  Both Newman College and CBC Fremantle made it to the final for this carnival and Newman College took first place winning 5-0 (30) to 3-2 (19).  Well done to both schools and to Mater Dei College and Mandurah CC who also qualified for this Competition.

The second Competition is the Year 7 Freo Dockers Shield and Cup conducted in Term 3.  The ACC in conjunction with the WAFC offered two Yr 7 Carnivals for 2012:

  • South Carnival - Boys (Ferndale Reserve) - Wednesday 8th August

  • South Carnival - Girls (Ferndale Reserve) - Wednesday 8th August

  • South Carnival - Boys (Sutherlands Park) - Wednesday 8th August

It was our first girl's AFL carnival and a great success.  It was good to see the players so enthusiastic and enjoying the game. Congratulations to Seton College for being our inaugural winners of the Freo Docker's Cup.

The winners of both boys carnivals played in a Grand Final held at East Fremantle Football Oval on Wednesday 15th August.  It was a great game between CBC Fremantle and Corpus Christi with the final result as CBC 66 defeating COR 41.
