The Metropolitan Hockey Challenge for Boys never disappoints.
Every year, a new group of players from all the competing schools attend and play brilliantly for their school.
Yesterday the ACC Boys Hockey Challenge produced some excellent games with boys displaying some amazing skills, team comradery and all played in a wonderful spirit.
All teams played 6 rounds of hockey in their respective pool prior to the Semi Finals.
Participating schools were: Ursula Fryane, Catholic College, Thornlie Christian College, Nagle Catholic College, St Stephen’s Duncraig, St Stephens Carramar. CBC Fremantle, All Saints College, Holy Cross College, Carey Baptist College, Kingsway Christian College, John XXIII College, Newman College, Mazenod College and St Mark’s ACS.
It was great to see schools developing their younger player who are sure to continue to make an impact at this event every year.
Both pools of hockey came down to the final round with only 4 teams making it through to the Semi Finals.
Nagle Catholic College dominated Pool A throughout the morning with CBC Fremantle coming in second with only goal difference separating them from Ursula Frayne Catholic College who had been consistent throughout the rounds.
Pool B also came down to the final round of fixtures to determine who was to make it into the Semi Finals. Mazenod College came out on top from John XXIII College.
Both Semi Finals produced clear results.
Semi Final A
Nagle defeated John XXIII College (3-1)
Semi Final B
CBC defeated Mazenod (2-1)
Over the years, both Nagle and CBC have come away winners at the Boys Hockey Challenge. Nagle were looking for 2 in a row after winning last year with CBC wishing to overcome an earlier round defeat by Nagle from the morning.
A hard fought game from both teams led to no score from either team at full time. Extra time was required and again no score after the extra 10 minutes of play.
Teams were then required to play penalties to determine a winner. Excellent goal keeping from Nagle on the third and fourth penalty meant they would again be the winners of the ACC Hockey Challenge for 2018
Final Score: Nagle defeated CBC (5-3)
