The inaugural ACC Soccer Championship Grand Final games were held yesterday at John XXIII College with Lake Joondalup v South Coast in the Boys Final and Prendiville v Emmanuel in the Girls Final.

The scene was set for some excellent football with the teams very evenly matched and in great form progressing through the elimination tournament bracket.

Given the blustery and wet weather conditions, the Grand Finals certainly did not disappoint with both the Girls and Boys playing out thrilling games in front of an excellent crowd.

In the boys final, Lake Joondalup initially scored first, and this really fired up the team to hold strong momentum inside the first 15 minutes. After this time, South Coast gradually started to gain control of the possession after the initial burst and started to put up repeat entries into the box. South Coast scoring to make the game 1-1 and then with the time ticking in the final mintues of the game they were able to score what would be the game winning goal.  Celebrations were breaking out and South Coast had completed the fantastic comeback 2-1. Both teams were outstanding in their game, conduct and sportsmanship!

The girls game begun strongly with Prendiville and Emmanuel both very evenly matched across the field. The midfield battle was enthralling and both teams had very strong structure behind the ball.  Prendiville had the better of the scoring opportunities within the first half without reward on the scoreboard. The second half was again very tightly contested and it was only through a moment of absolute brilliance from Prendiville that the ultimate strike was struck and the crucial 1-0 lead formed. The final 5 minutes was very intense with the Emmanuel girls attacking the goals strongly and looking for the equaliser whilst Prendiville were defending as strongly as they could to hold onto the lead. The final result being 1-0 to Prendiville. Again, it was great to see such healthy sportsmanship between the teams, and players representing their schools with pride.

Congratulations to Kasey Nicholas from Prendiville who played Centre-Forward and scored the match winning strike and Jonathon McCracken as goalkeeper for Lake Joondalup Baptist for winning the MVP award for the respective games.

Thank you to the referees and officials for their control and effeciency. Thankyou also to Shankar Menon from Football West and also to Perth Glory W League goal keeping superstar Morgan Aquino for assisting with the presentations.
