The 2023 ACC Senior Netball Championship Grand final was held this week, Tuesday 15 August, court 1 at the Gold Netball Centre.

The Grand Final was destined to be a showpiece event on the ACC calendar with Aranmore Catholic College set to battle it out with Chisholm Catholic College. Both teams playing off in the deciding finale for the first time after hard fought semifinal victories the week prior against John XXIII and St Brigid’s respectively.

Both teams had many highly talented young players that are currently in both WANL, and state development squads and the game was always going to come down to which team maintained the pressure for the full 48 minutes.

Chisholm got off to a rapid start with excellent ball movement opening a quick early lead before the game started to tighten up prior to quarter time where Chisholm held an 8-goal advantage.

The Chisholm mid court led by captain Stephanie Towie and the attacking pair of Jessica Ferraloro and Sophia Giacci were causing headaches for the Aranmore defense and combining superbly to help direct and control the front half game. Chisholm entering the half time break with a handy 13 goal margin.

Aranmore came out early in the 3rd quarter with some slightly revamped positional changes and started to claw back into the contest. Rachel Cant and Lylah Weymouth became influential early in the 3rd quarter. The defensive efforts lifted, and the team started to gain some turnovers from Chisholm and press forward to attack. Aranmore managed to get the lead down to single digits however this was as close as they would get. The Chisholm attacking shooters catching fire again and working very well in tandem throughout the front court to maintain the dominant game position at 3 quarter time.

Centre Stephanie Towie (Chisholm Captain) was everywhere from defense to attack and played a very strong four quarter game where she was the pivotal player in almost every attacking chain. A commanding performance rewarded with the MVP of the grand final.

Ultimately, the final score was a 49 - 29 victory to Chisholm Catholic College earning them their first ACC Championship title. A super performance from the girls!!!

Congratulations to both teams on the fantastic game and the spirit in which the final was played was also exceptional.

The ACC streamed the game through 7West Media – Streamer and attracted a good crowd at the Gold Netball Centre and huge online audience via the live stream which was free and on demand.
