Congratulations to all of the ACC teams participating in the 2019 ACC Year 7 Super Series - Sam Kerr and Stan Lazaridis Football Shields.

The Year 7 Super Series had soccer group stage fixtures spread across multiple metro venues Mercy College, Irene McCormack College and Curtin University on Tuesday 23 October. All players are to be commended for representing their school and should be very proud of the standard of games played.

In the boys northern pool at Mercy College a very strong pool of teams had a great day with many close and hard fought games decided in the final minutes. Chisholm boys played a strong final game performance with a 3-1 result over Irene McCormack earning entry into the Stan Lazaridis Final on goal difference over a determined Sacred Heart. In the girls at Irene McCormack College, Mercy College was very strong all day alongside the equally impressive Irene McCormack team. The Mercy girls were able to flip the result from earlier in the day, when they needed it most in the crossover final, putting them through to the Sam Kerr Shield Final.

The South-Central pool at Curtin University was also a fantastic day of games with Bunbury Catholic College playing determined football and winning through to the Sam Kerr Grand Final with a strong all round team performance going undefeated. In the Stan Lazaridis Shield, South Coast Baptist College also enjoyed an undefeated run with some commanding performances against determined opposition teams such as CBC Fremantle and Bunbury Catholic.

The stage was set with John XXIII playing fields for the Boys Grand Final and Frederick Irwin AS in Mandurah playing host to the Girls Grandfinal on Tuesday 29 October. It was to be a football showdown between Mercy College v Bunbury Catholic in the Sam Kerr Final (Girls) and South Coast Baptist v Chisholm College in the Stan Lazaridis Final (Boys).

The Stand Lazaridis Final was played at a fast speed, with excellent attacking play and top level skills. South Coast held possession and excellent field position for a large portion of the first half without reward on the scoreboard, with Chisholm coming back very strongly in the latter stages of the first half and early second half with some dangerous counter attacks through the middle of the ground creating some nervous moments for the South Coast defenders. As the game progressed, South Coast showed their tremendous attacking power scoring some stunning goals and pulling away to be crowned the champions for 2019.

The Sam Kerr Final was a great battle from the beginning with Bunbury Catholic striking early with two stunning goals in the first 30 minutes before Mercy College started to find their feet and gain some possession and field position. A goal to the Mercy girls in the second half had the game on a tightrope and the defensive efforts of Bunbury was suddenly needing to be at its peak. Bunbury was up to the challenge successfully playing strong team football to the very end whistle securing the fantastic victory.

All teams are to be congratulated for the sportsmanship and determination throughout the games. The games were played with excellent spirit and it was a very enjoyable spectacle for the parents and spectators.
