Congratulations to all of the ACC teams participating in the 2021 ACC Year 7 Super Series - Sam Kerr and Stan Lazaridis Football Shields.

The Year 7 Super Series had soccer group stage fixtures spread across multiple metro venues including Mercy College, John XXIII College, Curtin University and Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex. A fantastic day of soccer was played and although the wet weather played its part, all teams and players enjoyed the competition and chance to showcase there skills.

Sam Kerr Shield (Girls)

8 schools competed for the Sam Kerr Shield in 2021 and the competition was close throughout the initial group stage.

Mercy College and Bunbury CC both topped their pools respectively going through the morning games undefeated to reach the Grand Final. Each team had some tight tussles at different stages but were able to secure goals, defend well at crucial times and show great depth of strength across the playing squads.

The grand final was always going to be a thrilling game and a battle of which team made the most of their opportunities. Mercy College striking early in the first half with a great team goal that stamped an early momentum boost. The second half was played to a high speed with both teams having opportunities and chances in the attacking half. In the end Mercy was able to secure a penalty in the box which was converted and secured a momentous 2-0 result.

Stan Lazaridis Shield (Boys)

In the initial group stage, some thrilling games were played in wet and blustery conditions across the venues. In the end, Mercy College, South Coast Baptist and St James’ AS navigated through some close encounters and were able to top the respective pools. Special mention to La Salle, CBC Fremantle, and Kingsway Christian who all finished 2nd in the competing pools showcasing some strong football across the day.

The stage was set for a fantastic grand final tri series between the three pool winners which was then played at Litis Stadium (Home to Floreat Athena) on Wednesday 27 October.

The first final between Mercy and St James’ was fast and frenetic with plenty of opportunity for both teams to score. Mercy scoring a great goal just before half time and then having to withstand some excellent attacking plays from St James’ in the second half to secure the 1-0 result. The second final between St James’ and South Coast was a possession battle where South Coast got off to a flying start trapping the ball in the front half scoring numerous goals in behind the St James’ defenders. St James’ fought on courageously and scored a goal back against the tide. South Coast's overall skill and possession dominance put a final stamp on the comprehensive result. The third final had the two undefeated teams in Mercy College and South Coast Baptist in great spirits with a high standard game of football. South Coast scoring initially in the first half and then Mercy having some opportunities to level up. In the end South Coast put a final second goal on the board late into the second half that secured a 2-0 result to be crowned the champions for 2021.
