The 2019 ACC Boys Hockey Challenge produced some excellent games. All games were played in a wonderful competitive spirit with games decided by the fine margins. It was great to see schools developing their younger players who are sure to continue to make an impact at this event in future years.

All metro teams played 5 rounds of hockey in their respective pools prior to the top four teams making the Semi Finals. The Grand Final between John XXIII v CBC Fremantle was played at a frenetic speed with many elite young hockey talents taking the field in the showcase game.

Participating schools were: Ursula Frayne Catholic College, Corpus Christi College, Carey Baptist College, Nagle Catholic College, St Stephen’s Duncraig, CBC Fremantle, Peter Moyes ACS, Kingsway Christian College, John XXIII College, Newman College, Mazenod College and St Mark’s ACS.

The South West Hockey Challenge held in Bunbury featured a round robin event and Grand Final and included the following participating teams: Bunbury Grammar, Bunbury Catholic College and Georgiana Molloy AS.

A thrilling game took place between Georgiana Molloy and Bunbury Catholic during the final pool fixture with penalties deciding ultimately which team would progress into the Grand Final. The Grand Final scene was set with defending champions Bunbury Grammar looking for another title and Bunbury Catholic College boys looking to impress after missing out on the grand final last year. Bunbury Catholic College opened the game very impressively and controlled possession and territory for good portions of the final. Bunbury Grammar had opportunities during both the first half and second half and it was a battle of who would take the chance at the right time.

Congratulations to all boys involved across both venues.

Finals Result:

Metro: John XXIII def CBC Fremantle 4-1

South West: Bunbury Catholic def Bunbury Grammar 2-1
