A fantastic effort and great day was had by all of our participating schools in the 2019 ACC Hockey Challenge Girls Metro and South West Carnivals.

Metro girls teams enjoyed the round robin pool games and all girls should be very proud of the sportsmanship and spirit displayed by the teams. The carnival was played in nice weather at the UWA Sports Park.

Well done to the four teams progressing into the semi finals in Newman College, Guildford Grammar, Peter Moyes ACS and St Stephens Duncraig. The semi finals were exceptional games with Newman def St Stephens 4-0. Guildford Grammar also securing a thrilling 1-0 result over Peter Moyes ACS to progress into the final.

In the Grand Final, Newman College are to be congratulated for putting in an amazing all round team performance where they were able to defend strongly as a team and then make strong attacking moves inside the attacking area and maximise the scoring opportunities. It was a top class and highly skilled game of hockey and the Guildford Grammar girls are to also be congratulated on the strong effort and desire to never give in.

A memorable day was had by all participants involved at the 2019 South West ACC Hockey Challenge. With the brand new turf recently being laid at the Bunbury Hockey Stadium the students were treated to some of the very best hockey surfaces within the state.

The girls competition was extremely even during the pool stage with many games going down to the wire with only goal difference or penalties separating teams in the standings. The Grand Final was played between Bunbury Catholic College and Bunbury Grammar. The final was a game of small margins and a battle between who would capitalise on forward opportunities. Both teams had strong defensive structure and it was Bunbury Grammar who ultimately scored the decisive goal before withstanding a strong effort from Bunbury Catholic in the finals stages of the game.

Finals Result:

Metro: Newman def Guildford Grammar 3-0

South West: Bunbury Grammar def Bunbury Catholic 1-0
