ACC v COMBINED GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS REPRESENTATIVE CRICKET
18 March - Murdoch Cricket Ground
Result: Combined Government Schools, Representative XI (10/254) defeated the Associated and Catholic Colleges, Representative XI (9/214)
A fantastic game of cricket was played between the ACC and Combined State Schools in 2021. The game has a rich and strong history in WA cricket and both teams were stacked with some of the best underage cricketing talent in WA. The game certainly lived up to the hype with both teams enjoying the competitive nature and hard-fought contest across the day.
The State Schools batted first and were put under some early pressure with a lively spell of fast bowling from Regan Hill capturing an early wicket. After the initial nerves settled, the State Schools quickly settled into a batting rhythm and built a couple of strong partnerships that would lay the a match winning foundation. Johann Cloete eventually digging deep in his second spell and taking the big wicket and breaking the partnership having the State Schools 3/210. At this point the ACC were looking to apply the strangle to reduce as many runs as possible. Leg spinner Griffen Collins was brilliant through the State Schools middle and lower order. Collins picked up 6 for 45 off 9 overs and was the pick of the ACC bowlers. The ACC were able to execute a magnificent finish to the innings and bowl the State Schools out for a total of 254.
The scene was set for a great run chase in the afternoon. The ACC needed strong partnerships and were well served by Jake Gerrans and Douwtjie Hoogenboezem both of which steadily accumulated runs taking the ACC into a solid foundation at 1/64. Once both batsmen departed, some further strong contributions were made by Corey Wasley and Lachlan Cox both of whom were striking the ball cleanly and starting to get the team into a position where they could attack the required run rate. Lachlan Dargie was the pick of the mid lower order with a well composed 41 not out and carrying the team throughout the final 10 over chase. Unfortunately, the 250+ total proved slightly too much and the innings was closed out at 9/214.
Final: State Schools 254 def ACC 9/214
