The 2023 ACC Boys Hockey Challenge produced some excellent hockey. All games were played in a wonderful competitive spirit with some outstanding, high quality performances and top goals scored.
Division 2 Boys
Participating schools in the Div 2 boys competition were Newman, St Stephen's Duncraig, Ursula Frayne, Guildford, Ellenbrook and Mandurah CC.
Grand Final
The grand final was a tightly contested game between Newman and Guildford with both teams very evenly matched across the turf. The game was always going to come down to which team could take the half opportunties that presented. Both teams played a great defensive brand and were strong behind the ball. Eventually Newman scored a great team goal and this then sent the game into overdrive with Guildford pushing hard for the equaliser in the final 10 minutes. The Newman defense held resolute and was able to clinch a thrilling Div 2 Final result 1-0.
Division 1 Boys
Participating Schools in the Div 1 boys competition were Bunbury Grammar, Mazenod, John XXIII, St Mark's, CBC Fremantle and MacKillop.
Grand Final
The grand final was a rematch of the thrilling Div 1 2022 grand final with both John XXIII and Bunbury Grammar again putting on a spectacular show. Both teams had some highly talented and skillful players that could turn the match within a second. An even start to the match occurred before John XXIII found a moment of brilliance with an end to end goal followed by a second strike. Bunbury Grammar never gave in and pushed right to the very end with plenty of opportunties in the attacking D in the final half. John XXIII flipping the script from 2022 to take a memorable 2-1, Division 1 victory.
