There was a great atmosphere at the 2023 ACC Girls Hockey Challenge with all girls' teams playing some spirited and skilful hockey. Plenty of fantastic goals were scored and teams should be commended for the sportsmanship displayed between players.
Division 2 Girls
Participating schools in the Div 2 girls competition were Sacred Heart, Ellenbrook, MacKillop, John XXIII, Mandurah CC & St George's.
Grand Final
An amazing high scoring and nailbiting grand final was decided in the final 30 seconds of regulation time. Both teams Sacred Heart and John XXIII played attacking hockey and had players that could break through the defensive lines. In the end, with the game deadlocked at 2-2, a final flurry of attack in the D from Sacred Heart had them score the winning goal in the final plays of the game. A great sporting spectacle and both teams should be very proud of the way they represented the schools.
Division 1 Girls
Participating Schools in the Div 1 girls competition were St Mark's, Mercedes, Bunbury Grammar, Ursula Frayne, Guildford & Newman.
Grand Final
The grand final was a hotly contested game early with both teams pushing to gain possession and stretch the opposition defense. Although Newman had some opportunities on the counter attack, Ursula Frayne started to gain control with front half pressure and scored a great team lifting goal that proved the ultimate decider in a very even contest. Ursula Frayne were runner up in 2022 and this year they went the extra step with a sensational day enjoyed by all players.
Finals Results
Div 2: Sacred Heart def John XXIII 3-2
Div 1: Ursula Frayne def Newman 1-0
Congratulations to all girls involved across both divisions.
