Congratulations to all teams that were involved in the 2022 Year 7 Super Series - BWA Challenge. The Basketball WA Challenge was played across three venues - Warwick Stadium (boys), Wally Hagan Stadium (boys) and Bendat Stadium (girls).

The standard of basketball from the Year 7 students was exceptional and all teams are to be highly commended on the team spirit and effort throughout the carnival day.

BWA Challenge Girls

Bendat Stadium had some excellent girls’ games with Sacred Heart undefeated in Pool A.  There were strong team performances from Kennedy Baptist and Kolbe finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Pool B resulted in a three way tie between Mater Dei, Mercedes and All Saints’ College. The final ladder placings came down to total points for / against with Mater Dei holding the superior edge. The stage was set for a great grand final between the two top Year 7 girls basketball teams in Sacred Heart and Mater Dei.

In the final, both teams were evenly balanced in the early phases of the game and had a good blend of offense and defense. After a relatively even first half, Sacred Heart found another level in the second half with a high number of players hitting excellent field goals. The ball movement opened up the great offense and even though Mater Dei defended strongly, the shooting was exceptional. In the end, Sacred Heart powered to the final buzzer in a commanding performance across the day that had them go undefeated.

BWA Challenge Boys

At Warwick Stadium the results were very close with many games decided in the final minute.

Pool A had Kennedy Baptist go through undefeated despite a strong performance by St Norbert College. In Pool B, All Saints’ College went through undefeated with Kolbe College in 2nd place. Pool C was held at Wally Hagan Stadium and was also a very close competition. Living Waters played some great team basketball and progressed to the finals going through undefeated.  There were well-rounded performances by Emmanuel Catholic College and CBC Fremantle finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The Boys' grand final carnival was held on Tuesday 24 May at Bendat Stadium with Kennedy, All Saints’ and Living Waters all progressing to the day. The level of basketball played between the Year 7 players on this day is to be highly commended with many young players set for higher playing honours as they progress through the basketball talent pathways.

The sportsmanship and spirit between the 3 grand final teams was also exceptional. Kennedy Baptist won both games in the grand final series eventually taking the title for 2022.
