The ACC Championship Junior Basketball held preliminary pools during Term 1 2023 with a wide range of sub association groups, wildcard groups and one day carnivals conducted. The ACC Championship Elimination tournament then took place during Term 2 in both the senior (Yr10-12) and junior (Y7-9) categories. Over 70 ACC member schools were involved in 2023 from the metropolitan and country areas of WA.
The Grand Finals in the Juniors were played on the 30 May at Warwick Stadium and were fantastic games to finish off the Junior Basketball Championship.
The Junior Girls Grand Final between St Norbert and Kennedy was a tight game throughout with St Norbert holding a slender 10-point lead for most of Q1-Q3. Eventually late in Q3 and early in Q4 the St Norbert girls went on a scoring blitz of 3-point shooting and driving the key that broke the game open, taking the Championship over a determined Kennedy girls’ team who never gave up throughout.
The Junior Boys Grand Final had two very evenly matched teams with John Septimus Roe and Emmanuel CC. Both teams looked very strong the week prior during the semi final phase, setting up an excellent final. The game was evenly balanced throughout the first half with both teams scoring in a very high scoring and free flowing game. The second half became more of an arm wrestle defensively with John Septimus Roe making some key defensive adjustments and stops that opened the match winning lead that Emmanuel CC could not bridge. The game was a wonderful battle between two high quality squads stacked with elite young talent.
Congratulations to MVP players Reece Anticevic (St Norbert) and Mason Clark (John Septimus Roe) for being influential players with very strong grand final performances.
