Senior Netball

42 schools participated in the 2023 ACC Senior Girls Netball Championship, the pinnacle Netball competition within the association. The competition’s matches were held throughout Term 2, weekly within sub-association groups and in one day carnival pools on 19 May. (There were no weekly fixtures of Wild Card Pools this year.)

The elimination bracket, Round of 16 matches took place between the qualifying teams during Term 3, Weeks 1-5. The Semi-Finals, played between Chisholm and St Brigid’s and the other between Aranmore and John XXIII, were very competitive matches with both games going to the final quarter in thrilling games.

The Grand Final took place between Chisholm Catholic College and Aranmore Catholic College on Tuesday 15 August on Court 1 at Gold Netball Centre. Both teams having exceptional form to make the Grand Final and it was the first time either school had appeared in the grand final game.

A great crowd was in attendance this year and the game was streamed live through Streamer and 7West Media which was well received by the two grand finalist schools and the wider community that tuned in to watch the game.

Both teams had many talented players; more than a few who took the court are currently in WANL and/or state development squads, and spectators were treated to a high standard of netball.

Chisholm got off to a rapid start with excellent ball movement opening a quick early lead before the game started to tighten up prior to quarter time with Chisholm holding an 8-goal advantage.

The Chisholm mid court led by captain Stephanie Towie and the attacking pair of Jessica Ferraloro and Sophia Giacci were causing headaches for the Aranmore defense and combining superbly to help direct and control the front half game.

Aranmore came out early in the 3rd quarter with some slightly revamped positional changes and started to claw back into the contest. Rachel Cant and Lylah Weymouth became influential early in the 3rd quarter. Aranmore managed to get the deficit into single digits however this was as close as they would get. The Chisholm attacking shooters catching fire and working very well in tandem throughout the front court to maintain ascendancy, holding the lead through the final quarter, for a deserving victory.

Centre Stephanie Towie (Chisholm Captain) was everywhere from defense to attack and played a very strong four quarter game where she was the pivotal player in almost every attacking chain. A commanding performance rewarded with the MVP of the grand final.

Congratulations to both teams on the fantastic game and the spirit in which the final was played was also exceptional. A final thankyou to the umpires across the elimination finals and to Netball WA for the ongoing support of the ACC Championship at Gold Netball Centre.

Final: Chisholm defeated Aranmore 49-29
