The ACC Championship is the pinnacle of Senior Basketball within the association.
Due to Covid restrictions, the senior basketball competition was rescheduled to term 3 as one day carnivals held at a wide range of metro basketball venues including Warwick Stadium, Bendat Stadium, Willetton Stadium and Wally Hagan Stadium.
The competition hosted 48 ACC schools across both senior girls’ and boys’ competitions. Some exciting basketball was played during the preliminary pool stage showing the great depth of basketball talent within the ACC. The winning teams in each pool were then invited to participate in the Grand Final Carnival on Tuesday 20 September where they would contest the 2022 ACC Basketball Senior Championship crowns.
The Grand Final carnival held at Warwick Stadium was a show piece event with high quality basketball games taking place. All teams involved in the Grand Final carnival are to be commended for the spirit in which the games were played. The games were closely fought and played right to the final minute. Whilst competitive, the teams displayed great sportsmanship and respect for their opponents and enjoyed the opportunity to compete against the best of the best within the association all at the same venue.
The Boys Grand Final pool had 7 teams. There were some strong performances from Mundaring Christian College and Kingsway Christian College, finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively in the final placings.
The champion team for 2022 was Kennedy Baptist College who went through the carnival undefeated across the 6 games. The Kennedy team played some outstanding team basketball and had multiple attacking players in offense scoring throughout the day. Congratulations to carnival MVP Josh Bowen from Mundaring Christian College who was voted best player across the carnival games. This tall centre had a high impact in all games controlling the rebounds and providing valuable offense to his team.
The Girls Grand Final pool had 5 teams. It was a competitive carnival with close results in most games. Our Lady of Mercy College finished 2nd after a great team performance on the day. Kennedy Baptist College completed the amazing double moving through undefeated and being crowned 2022 ACC Championship Senior Basketball Champions.
Well done to carnival MVP Adi Griffith from Our Lady of Mercy for the all-round performance as a playmaking guard across the games.
