42 schools participated in the 2022 ACC Senior Girls Netball Championship, the pinnacle Netball competition within the association. The competition’s matches were held throughout Term 2, weekly within sub-association groups and in one day carnival pools on 20 May. (There were no weekly fixtures of Wild Card Pools this year.)
The elimination bracket matches took place between the qualifying teams during Term 3, Weeks 1-5. The Semi-Finals, one played between Ursula Frayne and Corpus Christi and the other between Swan Christian and Emmanuel CC, were very competitive matches.
The Grand Final event took place between reigning champions, Ursula Frayne Catholic College, and Emmanuel Catholic College on Tuesday 16 August on Court 1 at Gold Netball Centre, with the match starting at 4:00 PM.
There was a good crowd in attendance this year, including approximately 30 students from school Specialist Netball Academy classes, many parents and other interested people from community clubs. It was particularly heart-warming to see so many teachers from the schools involved, come in their own time to show their support to their teams.
Both teams had many talented players; more than a few who took the court are currently in WANL and/or state development squads, and spectators were treated to a high standard of netball. Ursula Frayne was almost unstoppable in their shooting goal third and they maintained a steady lead throughout the match. They defeated Emmanuel CC convincingly to win the Championship, claiming the cup for the 4th year in a row, an amazing achievement!
West Coast Fever player, Emma Cosh, attended the Grand Final to present the trophies and medallions. Charisse Rond, Ursula Frayne’s Centre, played consistently well, offensively and defensively throughout all 4 quarters, and was awarded MVP of the Grand Final match.
